Positive Changes Through The BISP Nashonuma Program 2026

The Benazir Nashonuma Programme is a flagship Government of Pakistan initiative. Specifically, it fights malnutrition among pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young children. Run by BISP, it gives eligible families quarterly cash stipends with nutrition and health services.

The programme launched in August 2020 as a 9-district pilot. Then it grew into one of Pakistan’s largest nutrition safety nets. Furthermore, it operates in 158 districts through 558 Nashonuma Facilitation Centres. Moreover, it serves more than 4.6 million beneficiaries.

The programme focuses on several key areas. First, it addresses malnutrition among pregnant women and infants. Second, it promotes breastfeeding during a child’s first two years. Finally, it gives mothers health and nutrition education.

Quarterly Stipends Under the Nashonuma Programme

Enrolled families receive quarterly payments. Moreover, these can add up to Rs 42,500 in support:

  • Pregnant women: Rs 3,500 per quarter
  • Boys under 2 years: Rs 3,500 per quarter
  • Girls under 2 years: Rs 4,000 per quarter

Who Is Eligible for the Nashonuma Programme

To qualify, a woman must be enrolled in the Benazir Kafaalat programme and be either pregnant or lactating (aged 18 to 59), or be the mother of a child under 2 years of age who is a Kafaalat beneficiary.

How to Register for the Nashonuma Programme

Families register in person at Nashonuma Facilitation Centres in government hospitals and health facilities. First, applicants should bring their valid CNIC. Next, BISP staff verify eligibility through the Kafaalat database. Finally, they complete the enrolment on the spot. After enrolment, families must meet quarterly conditions. For example, mothers consume the specialized nutritious food (SNF). They also ensure routine immunization and bring children for growth monitoring visits.

New Updates on the Nashonuma Programme in 2026

On 9 July 2026, BISP, WFP, WHO and UNICEF renewed their partnership. This third phase (BNP 3.0) adds 3.3 million more women and children. As a result, the programme now reaches about 8 million people.

In February 2026, the government raised quarterly stipends by Rs 500. Therefore, enrolled families can better cope with rising food costs.

A May 2026 Aga Khan University study found positive results. For instance, children in the programme showed 18% lower stunting rates. Consequently, the study confirms the programme’s impact on child nutrition.
