Youth Skill Development Programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A high-level meeting of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) was chaired by Muhammad Sohail Afridi to review ongoing Youth Skill Development Programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting focused on evaluating different initiatives aimed at improving youth skills, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring long-term economic growth in the province.

The session highlighted the government’s strong commitment to empowering young people through practical training, financial support, and job placement opportunities.

Government’s Commitment to Youth Development

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government is investing billions of rupees in youth-focused initiatives. He described young people as the most valuable asset of the province and stressed the importance of equipping them with skills that match current market needs.

The Youth Skill Development Programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are designed to reduce unemployment, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen the local economy by preparing a skilled workforce.

Focus on Effective Implementation

Muhammad Sohail Afridi directed all concerned departments to ensure that these programs deliver clear and measurable results. He stressed that policies alone are not enough; their proper implementation is key.

Authorities were instructed to adopt a strong and practical strategy to improve the impact of these initiatives and to speed up their execution so that more youth can benefit.

Rural Economic Transformation Project

One of the major highlights of the meeting was the Rural Economic Transformation Project. Under this initiative:

  • 42,000 youth are receiving start-up grants
  • Each individual is being given an average of Rs 73,000
  • So far, Rs 397 million has been distributed among 5,445 youth

This project is playing a significant role in promoting small businesses and self-employment in rural areas, making it an important part of the Youth Skill Development Programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Employment and Internship Opportunities

The government is also focusing on connecting trained youth with job opportunities. According to the briefing:

  • 750 trained individuals have been linked to jobs in Peshawar
  • A target of 25,000 internships and job placements has been set

These steps aim to bridge the gap between training and employment, ensuring that skills lead to real income opportunities.

Ehsaas Hunar Program

The Ehsaas Hunar Program is another key initiative supporting young entrepreneurs. Under this scheme:

  • Interest-free loans of up to Rs 500,000 are provided
  • A total budget of Rs 3 billion has been allocated
  • Rs 585 million has already been distributed to 1,211 applicants

This program helps youth start or expand their businesses, contributing to economic stability and growth across the province.

TEVTA Skill Enhancement Initiative

TEVTA has launched a special program to further enhance technical skills among youth. Key features include:

  • Monthly stipend of Rs 15,000 for trainees
  • On-the-job training in industrial units
  • 88 youth have received training so far
  • 560 youth have been placed in 85 industrial units

This initiative ensures that participants gain hands-on experience, which increases their chances of employment.

Rapid Skill Development Program for Merged Districts

Special attention is being given to youth from merged districts through the Rapid Skill Development Program. Under this program:

  • 3,000 youth are receiving financial and technical support
  • A total of Rs 685 million has been allocated
  • Training of 800 youth has been completed
  • 520 youth have been placed in the National Logistics Cell
  • 1,400 youth have been placed in the University of Engineering and Technology

This initiative is helping to integrate underdeveloped areas into the economic mainstream through skill-building and employment.
