Nishan Pakistan
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially launched Nishan Pakistan (NP), a unified digital platform designed to modernise and standardise identity verification services across the country. This new initiative comes under NADRA’s statutory mandate, as outlined in Section 7 of the NADRA Ordinance, 2000, and aims to streamline access to secure, efficient, and compliant identity verification for government and regulated private sector entities.
Addressing Challenges in Traditional Identity Verification
Before Nishan Pakistan, identity verification in Pakistan was a fragmented and time-consuming process. Manual or semi-digital systems required multiple touchpoints between NADRA and service-consuming entities. Onboarding for government departments and private organisations involved extensive documentation, repetitive approvals, and siloed access mechanisms.
These outdated processes often resulted in delays, inconsistencies, and limited transparency, making it challenging for institutions to verify citizen identities quickly and reliably.
The Launch of Nishan Pakistan
To overcome these challenges, NADRA introduced Nishan Pakistan, a dedicated web-based portal serving as a single gateway for regulated entities to access NADRA’s identity verification services.
Launched under the Government of Pakistan’s Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), Nishan Pakistan aligns with NADRA’s evolving regulatory framework, including the NADRA (Data Sharing) Regulations, 2025 and the NADRA (Identity Verification) Regulations, 2026. The platform ensures that all identity verification processes are standardised, fully digital, and regulation-driven.
Key Features of Nishan Pakistan
Nishan Pakistan offers a wide range of features designed to make identity verification more efficient, secure, and compliant:

Services Available Through Nishan Pakistan
Through the platform, digitally onboarded entities such as banks, microfinance banks, electronic money institutions (EMIs), non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs), telecom companies, and other regulated organisations can access:
- Multi-Biometric Verification: Fingerprint and facial recognition for secure identity checks.
- Verisys: Demographic and identity verification services.
- Proof-of-Life API: Ensuring individuals are alive during verification processes.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Secure system access for registered entities.
These services ensure efficient and reliable verification of citizen identities while maintaining compliance with NADRA’s legal and regulatory framework.
Benefits for Government and Private Sector Entities
For government agencies, Nishan Pakistan is especially valuable in implementing social welfare and public service programs where timely and accurate identity verification is critical. The platform enables faster onboarding and verification, reducing delays in service delivery.
Private sector organisations, including banks and telecommunication companies, benefit from secure, reliable, and compliant verification solutions that protect customer data and streamline their operations.
