Punjab Announces Electric Bikes for Female Students: Complete Details and Updates

Phase 2: 100,000 Electric Bikes — Registration Closed, E-Ballot Next

This page keeps the original Phase 1 record of the Punjab E-Bike Scheme for female students, now updated with the latest Phase 2 (2026) developments on top. Phase 1 launched at 20,000 bikes; the government later expanded it to 27,200 with a Rs. 25,000 down payment and Rs. 5,000 monthly installments, and that round has now closed. For the complete step-by-step Phase 2 registration and balloting guide, see our complete CM Maryam Nawaz Electric Bike Scheme Phase 2 guide.

Registration for Phase 2 opened on 5 September 2026 and closed on 4 October 2026. In this round, PITB will allot 100,000 electric bikes through a transparent computerized e-ballot. (The 125,000+ figure that officials announced on 2 September 2026 was the wider expansion plan; this round covers 100,000 bikes.)

Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026: Phase 2 update — 100,000 electric bikes

According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s statement of 12 October 2026, which ARY News reported, Phase 2 drew more than 1.3 million registrations with strong female participation — female students submitted 314,445 of 607,399 completed applications, and total completed applications crossed 607,000. Furthermore, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) operates the portal and will conduct the e-balloting.

Phase 2 Terms: What a Balloted Student Pays

Phase 2 changes the deal completely: there is ZERO down payment — the Chief Minister rejected down payments outright — and a balloted student pays around Rs. 3,000 per month for 36 months at 0% interest. Press reports across multiple outlets cite a government capital subsidy of about Rs. 90,000 per bike. In addition, the government covers insurance, registration, token tax, safety rods and a helmet. Moreover, the Bank of Punjab disburses and collects the loans. Successful female applicants will also receive free driving training under a Chief Minister directive of 12 October 2026.

Verification of applications wraps up during October 2026, after which PITB will run the computerized e-ballot and publish the results. The government will start bike distribution in early November 2026; officials have announced 5 November 2026 as the date. Applicants can track their application status on the official portal, and the scheme helpline is 042-111-333-267. E-Ballot Only: Not Every Applicant Gets a Bike

Older reports claimed “all female students will be provided with electric bikes.” However, that is not how Phase 2 works: with 1.1 million-plus applications for 100,000 bikes, selection is by computerized e-ballot only — submitting an application does not guarantee a bike.

Phase 1 Archive: 27,200 Bikes for Female Students

Phase 1 — now closed — began at 20,000 bikes; the government later expanded it to 27,200 for female students, with a Rs. 25,000 down payment and Rs. 5,000 monthly installments, Bank of Punjab financing, and 2 years of insurance and servicing. The details below remain as the historical record of that round.
