500 Closed Schools to Reopen
About 500 closed Government Community Schools will be reopened in phases, starting with schools that have more than 100 students. New schools will also be opened in areas that lack government education services, and a special grant package has been announced for backward and difficult areas.
SEF–TCF Partnership: 500 Schools by 2029
The SEF works with The Citizens Foundation to run schools in underserved areas. So far, 98 schools have been established under this partnership, with a plan to reach 500 TCF schools by June 2029. A proposal for a per-child monthly subsidy averaging Rs2,500 with inflation-linked annual increases is under review, but it has not been approved.
What This Means for Teachers and Parents
Teachers and parents are watching the rollout closely. For teachers, timely payment remains an ongoing concern in the sector, and it is not yet clear how the revised subsidies will affect salaries. Parents are advised to check with their child’s school directly, as the announcement does not mention any change in fees charged to families.
