Huawei Pura X View
Huawei has just pulled the wraps off a smartphone that takes a completely different approach to screen design. Instead of going the foldable route, the company has stretched a traditional slab-style phone horizontally, giving birth to what it calls the world’s first “wide-screen candy bar” smartphone, the Pura X View.
Why Go Wide?
Huawei says the Pura X View was “born for content.” The idea behind the unusually wide display is simple: more horizontal real estate means a noticeably better experience for watching videos, reading, gaming, and getting work done. Rather than making the phone taller, Huawei made it wider, landing the device somewhere between a conventional smartphone and a foldable in terms of viewing space.
Display: The Headline Feature
At the heart of the phone is a 6.39-inch OLED panel, but instead of a standard 16:9 or 20:9 ratio, Huawei has gone with an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio, paired with a 2232 × 1320 pixel resolution.
What’s interesting is that despite its relatively modest diagonal size, Huawei claims the panel offers 114.27 cm² of screen area, reportedly more than many 6.9-inch phones, purely because of its wider shape.
Other notable display specs include:
- Peak brightness: up to 6,500 nits
- Contrast ratio: 1,000,000:1
- PWM dimming frequency: 2,160Hz
- Bezels: just 1.05mm on each side
- Screen-to-body ratio: 96.1%
Huawei is billing this as the highest screen-to-body ratio ever achieved on a non-folding smartphone.

Design and Build
Despite packing a large battery, the phone stays impressively slim at just 6.68mm thick and weighs 201 grams. The back panel features a 3D grating glass finish that shifts light and shadow patterns as it catches different angles, while the rear cameras sit inside an elongated, racetrack-shaped module.
The Pura X View will be available in four colors:
- Lip Shadow Red
- Linen Grey
- Zero Degree White
- Phantom Night Black
Hardware and Software
Every configuration of the phone comes with 12GB of RAM, paired with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. Perhaps most notably, the Pura X View will be the first smartphone to launch with HarmonyOS 7.
Huawei says it has optimized the software specifically for the wider display, tailoring the video, reading, gaming, and productivity experience to take full advantage of the extra horizontal space. Even standard 16:9 video content is designed to minimize wasted screen space on the sides.
As for the chipset, Huawei hasn’t made an official announcement yet. However, a leak attributed to WHYLAB suggests the phone will run on Huawei’s Kirin 9030S processor, in line with earlier rumors pointing to a flagship-tier Kirin 9-series chip. This information remains unconfirmed for now.
Cameras
Full camera specifications haven’t been revealed either. Leaked reports, however, point to a 50MP triple camera system that includes a periscope telephoto lens. Front camera details also remain unofficial at this stage.

Battery and Pricing
Despite its slim profile, the Pura X View packs a substantial 7,000mAh battery, a notable achievement for a phone this thin. Charging speed details have not been disclosed yet.
Pre-reservations opened in China on August 20 through Huawei’s official online store and JD.com. The phone will be offered in three configurations:
- 12GB + 256GB
- 12GB + 512GB
- 12GB + 1TB
In-store demos and pre-sales are expected to begin on August 28. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, and more complete details are expected closer to the wider release. Huawei has also not confirmed any plans for international availability so far.

The Pura X View essentially takes the wide-screen viewing experience Huawei first explored with its foldable Pura X lineup and brings it to a standard, non-folding design. It offers a middle ground between traditional smartphones and foldables — more viewing space, without the added complexity of a folding mechanism.
