Punjab to Introduce AI Powered Scanner for Patients
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given in principle approval to introduce an AI powered scanner in the province, aimed at making disease screening and diagnosis faster for patients.
The Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing on the modern AI powered scanning solution during a meeting with executives of the Chinese company Alibaba, where she was informed that the scanner, built on non contrast CT technology, will be able to screen for up to ten diseases within around two minutes.
How It Will Help Patients
It was informed in the briefing that the technology will assist in the process of screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease. Through the AI powered scanner, timely detection of several potentially fatal cancers will also be possible, including pancreatic, liver, gastric, esophageal, and colorectal cancer.
The Chief Minister directed provincial health authorities to prepare a pilot project for introducing the scanner in Punjab, following her in principle approval. Officials say the technology is meant to support existing diagnostic methods rather than replace them.

The announcement comes as part of a wider push toward AI adoption in Pakistan’s healthcare sector, with an AI powered diagnostic rollout also planned nationwide under the Prime Minister’s Health Card Programme in partnership with Alibaba linked technology providers.
