Sustainable Development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is witnessing a transformative phase under the leadership of Chairman Imran Khan and Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. The province’s development strategy focuses on sustainable development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prioritising forests, environment, agriculture, livestock, and food security. The vision is clear: creating strong farmers, securing vital resources, and establishing a transparent and reliable food system.
Eco-Friendly Development Initiatives
In line with green development, the KP government has approved the e-rickshaw program to promote eco-friendly urban transport. Additionally, policy planning for electric vehicle charging stations is underway, marking a significant step towards renewable energy adoption and cleaner cities.
Direct Relief and Support for Agriculture
Farmers are at the heart of KP’s development strategy. In the first 100 days of the current government, over 380,000 fertiliser bags have been provided to support crop production. Moreover, more than 137,000 fruit trees have been distributed to encourage orchard farming and long-term food sustainability.
The government has also introduced measures to increase farmers’ income, including support for over 2,000 agricultural value chains. Barren lands totalling 1,300 acres have been brought under cultivation, and 626 acres have been laser-levelled to ensure better irrigation and productivity.

Revolutionising Irrigation Systems
Irrigation has been modernised to boost agricultural efficiency. A total of 230 watercourses have been repaired, ensuring smooth water flow to farmlands. Furthermore, 98 tube wells have been solarised to utilise renewable energy, and 50 new tube wells have been installed, improving access to water for farming communities.
Livestock Improvement Programs
Livestock development has been a major focus area, with 24,000 deserving individuals receiving support to enhance their livelihoods. Genetic improvements have been introduced to 20,000 animals, and research is being conducted on beef breeds and Sanian goats to boost productivity and quality.

Promotion of Fisheries
Fisheries in KP are also getting a significant boost. Approximately 9.65 million fish seeds have been prepared, and 40 private fish farms have been established, contributing to both food security and economic growth in rural communities.

Protecting Public Health
Public health measures have been strengthened, particularly through effective control of rabies. These actions ensure a safer and healthier environment for both humans and animals in the province.
Ensuring Food Security
Food safety and security are top priorities. In a recent crackdown, 117,000 litres of substandard bottled water were seized. Furthermore, 72,000 food dealers have been digitised, and over 5,000 inspections have been carried out to protect consumers from unsafe and adulterated food products.
Transparent Governance
KP has embraced technology to ensure accountability and transparency. An AI-based attendance system has been implemented for 1,500 employees, and more than Rs. 13 million in fines have been collected from violators of laws and regulations.
