Latest Weather Update in Pakistan
Met Office informed that monsoon currents are penetrating the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave is also approaching and is likely to strengthen on 4th and 5th September. Under the influence of this weather system:
Rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected in the Potohar region and Islamabad from Thursday to Sunday, with the heaviest activity likely over the weekend.
Wet and windy conditions with rain-wind/thunderstorm are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Gujranwala districts.
Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur districts of Kashmir from Thursday to Sunday.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar districts of Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period.
Rain-wind/thundershower is expected in the upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a possibility of landslides in hilly areas of KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir. Tourists and travellers are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travelling during the forecast period.
Mainly hot and humid weather, without significant rain activity, is expected to persist in Sindh and Balochistan during this period.
Met office further informed that heavy rain has already been recorded this week in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with roughly two hours of intense rainfall causing water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, and a rise in the water level of Leh Nullah. Concerned authorities have been directed to remain alert and take precautionary measures. Farmers are advised to plan irrigation, spraying and harvest-related activities according to the forecast rain windows.

Seasonal Outlook (July to September 2026)
Met office informed that a general tendency for normal to below-normal rainfall is expected across much of the country during the current outlook period, with the lowest negative departures expected in northeastern Punjab and adjoining areas. Below-normal rainfall is expected in Punjab, Sindh, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and most parts of Balochistan, while Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper KP are likely to receive normal to slightly above-normal rainfall. Mean temperatures are expected to remain above normal throughout the country during this period, partly attributed to developing El Niño conditions over the tropical Pacific.
City-Wise Temperature Snapshot (September Averages)
- Islamabad: Highs around 31 to 36°C, lows around 19 to 24°C, with roughly 4 to 8 rainy days expected this month.
- Lahore: Highs around 36 to 38°C, lows around 26 to 27°C, with an average of 17 rainy days and around 65mm of monthly rainfall.
- Rawalpindi: Average temperatures around 33 to 34°C, with roughly 17 rainy days and around 92mm of rainfall expected this month.
- Multan: Among the hottest cities this month, with highs around 40 to 43°C easing slightly toward month’s end.
- Karachi: Milder by comparison, averaging 27 to 33°C, with only about 2 rainy days expected.
These figures are monthly climatological averages and should be read alongside PMD’s short-term advisories for day-to-day accuracy, since actual conditions on a given day can vary significantly during an active monsoon spell.
Advisory
Concerned authorities and the general public are advised to remain alert and take the following precautionary measures during the forecast period:
- Residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other low-lying urban localities should avoid underpasses and flood-prone roads during and after spells of heavy rain.
- Tourists and travellers heading towards Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should exercise extra caution and avoid unnecessary travelling in view of the landslide risk.
- Farmers are advised to plan irrigation, spray and harvest-related activities in accordance with the forecast rain windows.
- Residents of Sindh and Balochistan are advised to continue monitoring official advisories, as mainly hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in these provinces during this period.
