Punjab Toughens Action Against Unlicensed Drivers
Traffic police in Punjab have intensified action against motorcyclists and car drivers found on the road without a valid driving licence.
Under the law, anyone riding a motorcycle or driving a car must hold a valid licence. Traffic police say legal action is being taken against those who don’t.
The Punjab government has also eased the process of obtaining a licence across the province and has released the latest fee details for September 2026.
Licence Fees for September 2026
For a one year car driving licence, the total fee has been fixed at Rs1,980. This includes a Rs150 test fee, a Rs1,350 licence fee charged after passing the test, and Rs480 in courier charges for home delivery of the card.
For a one year motorcycle driving licence, the total fee is Rs980, made up of a Rs50 test fee, a Rs450 fee after passing the test, and the same Rs480 courier charge.
Applicants are advised to confirm the exact fee for their chosen licence validity, since Traffic Police Punjab’s own website separately lists a different fee schedule for licences issued for a five year term, where a motorcycle licence is priced at Rs550 and a motorcar licence at Rs900. Commercial Vehicles Under Stricter Watch
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, has directed officials across the province to strictly check the driving licences of commercial vehicle drivers.
He said commercial vehicles will not be allowed to operate on Punjab’s roads without valid driving licences.
According to traffic department officials, more than 60,000 people were helped to obtain commercial driving licences across Punjab during the current month. The department also said more than 3,400 regular commercial driving licences have been issued.
DIG Traffic Nazir warned that strict action will continue against drivers of goods and passenger vehicles who operate without licences.
How to Get a Licence
Applicants first need a learner permit, obtained through the DLIMS portal or a Police Khidmat Markaz using their original CNIC. After the required waiting period, they can appear for the theory and practical test. Once they pass, the licence fee is paid and the smart card is delivered by courier.
Licence status and authenticity can be checked anytime through the DLIMS website. Or by sending a CNIC number, without dashes, to 8113.
