NADRA Explains How Pensioners Can Re-Obtain Proof of Life Certificate

Re-Obtain Proof of Life Certificate

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has explained the procedure for pensioners to re-obtain their Proof of Life Certificate through the PakID mobile application.

According to a statement issued by NADRA, pensioners are required to complete the verification process through the PakID app whenever their Proof of Life Certificate is requested again after one to six months.

A new certificate is issued each time the verification process is successfully completed, using either fingerprint or facial recognition depending on the device. The certificate is then automatically forwarded to the relevant pension-paying institution, removing the need for pensioners to submit it separately.

The development follows the launch of the Proof of Life Certificate system for pensioners by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who described the biometric and facial verification system as a major convenience aimed at serving people more efficiently, particularly elderly and disabled pensioners who previously had to visit banks repeatedly. The initiative was introduced in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, the Ministry of Defence, the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), and the Military Accountant General (MAG).

Other Ways to Obtain the Certificate

NADRA has also made the service completely free of cost. Pensioners who are unable to use the PakID app personally can have an immediate family member complete the identity verification process through the family member’s own PakID account and obtain the certificate on their behalf.

For pensioners who prefer assisted service, the certificate can also be obtained free of charge from more than 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises, over 988 NADRA Registration Centres, and around 500 Union Councils, where pensioners are being given priority service without waiting in the regular queue. NADRA has further extended the facility through its Mobile Registration Vans, Biker Service, and Man Pack Service for pensioners who have difficulty travelling to a service point.

NADRA said the Proof of Life service is part of a broader reform initiative under which it has established a National Pensioners Register. In its first phase, the register includes pensioners administered by the CGA and MAG, giving pension authorities a verified digital reference for confirming a pensioner’s identity and life status. NADRA said it will now send daily digital updates to pension controllers regarding relevant changes, including death notifications received through its Death Notification Tool or the Civil Registration Management System, as well as changes affecting the entitlement of secondary or family pensioners. Decisions on continuing, altering, or ending a pension remain with the competent pension authority under applicable rules.

NADRA has advised pensioners facing any difficulty during the process to contact its helpline at 1777 or visit the official NADRA website for further assistance.
