When will schools open after the holidays in Punjab?
The Punjab School Education Department has issued a fresh official notification addressing two important matters for educational institutions across the province. The first concerns the continuation of school closures, while the second lays out revised school timings that will take effect once classes resume. The notification has been issued by School Education Secretary Mudassar Riaz Malik.
When Will Schools Reopen?
According to the notification, following approval from the competent authority, all public and private educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed until Monday, August 24, 2026. This confirms earlier statements from the department that no extension to the summer vacation is under consideration, and school administrations have been directed to strictly follow this reopening date. Parents and students have been advised to rely only on official announcements from the department rather than unverified information circulating on social media.
Revised School Timings, August 24 to October 15, 2026
The second part of the notification announces new opening and closing hours for government schools. These revised timings will remain in effect from August 24 through October 15, 2026.

Special Adjustment for Girls’ Schools
The notification also states that respective Chief Executive Officers (District Education Authorities) may, at their discretion, adjust the opening and closing times of girls’ schools within their district by up to 15 minutes. This flexibility is meant to accommodate local conditions and the convenience of female students.
Who Is Responsible for Implementation?
Per the notification, all Chief Executive Officers (DEAs) across Punjab are required to ensure full compliance with these directives. Copies of the notification have also been forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Minister for School Education, the Secretary, and other senior department officials for necessary action.
Key Points for Parents and Teachers
- The new timing schedule applies specifically to government schools’ operating hours, while the closure order covers both public and private institutions.
- Friday timings are shortened across all shifts compared to the rest of the week.
- Any adjustment to girls’ schools’ timings will depend on the decision of the local district education authority.
- In case of any confusion, parents and teachers should contact their school or the district education authority directly.
