Pakistan Weather Update
Pakistan’s upper and central regions are bracing for another spell of monsoon activity. According to the latest forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a weather system formed by the interaction of monsoon currents and westerly winds is expected to bring intermittent rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to several parts of the country over the coming days.
Kashmir: Rain Expected From August 21 to 23
In Azad Kashmir, areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are likely to experience intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms from Friday night through Sunday. Isolated heavy downpours are also expected in some locations.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Also Set for Unsettled Weather
Most districts of the province, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda, Shangla, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Mardan, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan, are forecast to receive rain and gusty winds during the same period, with heavy rainfall possible in a few areas.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Northern/Central Punjab to Be Affected
The federal capital and surrounding areas are expected to see rain spells from the evening of August 21 through the morning of August 23. This includes Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Okara.
On Saturday, August 22, weather conditions are expected to intensify in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan as well.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Parts of Balochistan
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain with strong winds is expected in Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar. Meanwhile, most of Sindh and Balochistan will remain hot and humid, though localized rain may occur in Musakhel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar.
Precautionary Measures for Residents
- Low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Mardan may face urban flooding risks due to heavy downpours.
- Landslides are possible in the hilly terrain of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat.
- Residents near streams and local waterways should remain alert to the risk of flash floods.
- Non-essential travel, particularly toward hilly and mountainous areas, should be avoided during this period.
- Farmers are advised to take timely precautions to protect crops and livestock.
