Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the e-Bus Service in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made an important announcement that the government is providing environment-friendly transport to provide relief to the people. She said that the aim of these buses is not only to increase the convenience of public transport, but also to take a positive step has been taken towards protecting the environment. Maryam Nawaz also said that these buses will bring a significant change in the daily life of the citizens of Lahore and will provide more convenience, especially to students, senior citizens, and special needs.

Launch of Electric Buses
Maryam Nawaz has said that 27 electric buses have arrived in Lahore and will start operating on the city’s roads from tomorrow. These buses include modern technology, and their fares have been kept at the lowest. The fare of these buses will range from Rs 20 to Rs 35, which is the lowest fare in the country, and its aim is to help make public transport affordable and accessible. Providing affordable and eco-friendly travel facilities to citizens is the commitment of the Punjab government. This project aims to reduce the growing traffic problems in Lahore and make people’s lives easier. The Chief Minister also said that this initiative will enable 17,000 passengers to use this facility daily, thus facilitating the movement of people in the city and reducing many environmental impacts.

Maryam Nawaz also made some important remarks regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in her speech. Maryam Nawaz clarified that every province asks for money from the federation, and Punjab has not asked for anything from the federation at any stage. She said that all these steps are being taken by the Punjab government, which are for the convenience and welfare of the people.

Eco-Friendly e-Bus Service
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched Lahore’s first eco-friendly electric bus (e-bus) service, marking a major step toward sustainable urban transport in Punjab. The modern e-buses are fully electric, zero-emission vehicles equipped with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, security cameras, and accessibility features for women, children, and differently-abled passengers. Initially rolled out on Canal Road, the service will expand across the city in phases, aiming to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. This green initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to clean energy, modern infrastructure, and people-friendly public transport.
Punjab e-Bus Service – New Updates:
- Massive Province-Wide Expansion: 400 electric buses are now operating across 18 districts of Punjab, with work underway to induct 1,500 more electric buses into the province’s fleet.
- New Routes in Multiple Cities: New electric bus routes have been launched in Khanewal, Khushab, Bhakkar, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad, extending service to smaller cities and tehsils beyond Lahore.
- Further District Expansion: CM Maryam Nawaz has expanded the Green Electric Bus Service to five additional districts — Layyah, Okara, Sialkot, Chiniot, and Murree.
- Aggressive Future Timeline: By August 15, 2026, 1,100 electric buses were to arrive and become operational in Punjab, with another 1,500 buses planned — pushing the total provincial fleet to nearly 3,000 buses within the next three years.
- Rawalpindi Route Addition: A new electric bus route from Saddar to Hamrahi Bus Stop has been announced for Rawalpindi, improving access to the Soan River area and the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.
- Narowal Service Launch: An 11-bus electric service has been launched in Narowal district with a Rs. 20 fare, aimed at students, workers, and daily commuters.
- Technical Specifications: Each e-bus has a battery capacity of 350 kWh; a standard charger takes about three hours for a full charge, while a DC fast charger (in Green Town) can charge a bus in just half an hour, giving a range of roughly 300 kilometers.
- Bus Stop Infrastructure: At least 98 bus stops have been built specifically for the Lahore Electro route to connect far-flung areas with the city center.
- Additional Buses Already Arrived: 212 more electric buses meant for 20 additional districts have already arrived in Pakistan and are awaiting deployment.
